Teen with Down syndrome travels hundreds of miles for incredible reunion with brother

Their family revealed the surprise visit in a new video.

Going off to college is the break-free moment that most young adults long for. While the newfound freedom is an amazing change, it is also a time of transition--which can bring a lot of uncomfortable feelings with the adjustment. It can be overwhelming, scary, and unfamiliar.

So when mom Kimberly DowDell (@thekimberlydowdell) received a message from her son Blake that he was feeling anxious and overwhelmed during his second semester at college, she knew exactly what to do. She loaded up the family, including her husband and Blake's brother Jack (who has Down syndrome), and got on the road to go see him. Even in a jaded world, some love stories can still capture our hearts. For example, there’s Paris and Helen of Troy, the famed relationship in Greek Mythology that sparked the decade-long Trojan War—Helen’s beauty was so legendary that she’s often described as “the face that launched a thousand ships.”

In American history, we can find John and Abigail Adams, a couple who exchanged over 1,000 love letters. Then there’s Shah Jahan, India’s fifth Mughal emperor, whose deep love for his wife, Mumtaz Mahal, led him to commission the monumental Taj Mahal as a tribute to her after her death. Each tale sweeps us up in romance, showcasing unique forms of devotion and sacrifice.

Instead of focusing on her own tragedy, Kathleen chose to leave behind a powerful legacy: donating 12 of her organs to those in desperate need.

"These images provide a sense of hope, and reverence for the beauty of growing older."

Photographer Ruby Jean (@rubyjeanphotography) has come up with a creative way to capture the beauty of aging: with themed Goddess photoshoots. The Maine-based photographer has been holding the photo sessions for the past five years, which have "provided women with a space to celebrate themselves, and to let their inner child run free!" she writes on Instagram. "These sessions are more than just photos; they are experiences of confidence, joy, and play."
